MOVIE-RADIO GUIDE
aka "TV Radio Movie Guide"
Weekly Magazine from United States
Ceased publication

- First issue: 1931
- The weekly Radio Guide began life in November of 1931, morphed into the Movie-Radio Guide in 1940. The predecessor of TV Guide, it had as many as 14 regional editions at its peak. The former strong-arm man of the Hearst Corporation, Moe Annenberg, had begun the venture. Initially it was in a newspaper tabloid format; then in 1933 the covers were in two-color; full-color covers began in 1935 – often with Charles Rubino providing the artwork. The magazine provided not only the radio schedules but also articles about various radio and movie stars. In 1935 it printed an expose on the rigging of Major Bowes Amateur Hour. Moe Annenberg went to prison in 1940 (for tax evasion) and his son Walter took over. He later started TV Guide.
